(COLUMBUS COUNTY) – This is an update regarding the investigation of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office regarding the discovery of human remains on Bermuda Bay Lane in Tabor City, North Carolina, last week.

Preliminary autopsy results from the NC Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the death of Ervin Johnson was caused by homicide. The SBI and Columbus County Sheriff’s Office are seeking any information that the public may have with respect to this crime. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) regarding the discovery of human remains. The body was located by family members of Ervin Johnson, who was last seen on February 13, 2025. The remains were found on Bermuda Bay Lane in Tabor City, NC.

Agents from the SBI Coastal District and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the case, and the body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy. The cause of death is undetermined at this time, pending the results of the autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Ervin Hakeem Johnson, also known as “Ervianna” and “Baydee.”

Johnson was last seen walking outside at approximately 3:00 AM on February 13, 2025, without any belongings, as if meeting someone briefly. Johnson’s mother was the last person to see or speak to Johnson before leaving. All personal items, including a phone, ID card, and bank cards, were left behind.

Family members state that it is unusual for Johnson to leave without notifying someone of their whereabouts.
