The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office would like to announce that we have 3 transmitters available through our Project Lifesaver program!
Project Lifesaver is a critical search and rescue initiative specifically designed for individuals at risk of wandering due to cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down Syndrome, Dementia, and more. Our primary mission is clear: to save lives and prevent injuries by providing timely responses to those who wander. 🚓
Here’s how it works: Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small transmitter emitting a unique frequency signal. If they go missing, caregivers notify us, and our specially trained search and rescue team springs into action, using the signal to pinpoint their location and bring them back to safety. Best of all? This life-saving service is entirely free for citizens residing within Columbus County!
To be eligible for enrollment, individuals must meet the following criteria:
1. Permanent residency in Columbus County.
2. Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Downs Syndrome, Autism, or another verified cognitive disorder.
3. Caregiver presence 24/7/365.
4. Ineligibility to operate any motor vehicle.
5. For clients in long-term care facilities, payment and understanding of ownership terms.
6. Commitment to the program’s integrity; any attempt to tamper with the device results in permanent removal.
If you or someone you know meets these criteria, please contact Lieutenant Darris Floyd at (910)-317-6149 to learn more and enroll in this life-saving program. Together, let’s ensure the safety and well-being of our community members!
