On Monday, January 27, 2025, investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance from the Patrol Division and surrounding agencies, successfully closed an extensive investigation into multiple larcenies at local Dollar General stores.

Shymaya Ayana Newton of Fayetteville, NC, was apprehended during a traffic stop. Ms. Newton was wanted on outstanding charges from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland County, and authorities in South Carolina. Upon her arrest, Ms. Newton was found in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Ms. Newton was served with the following charges:

Felony Larceny
Possession of Stolen Goods
Felony Conspiracy
Felony Possession of Cocaine
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Larceny of Merchant Using an Emergency Door
Misdemeanor Larceny
Due to the severity of her charges, Ms. Newton was held without bond.
