“Proud to be a Gator”; Anthony Martin Recognized as Regional Teacher of the Year

East Columbus Jr./Sr. High School teacher Dr. Anthony Martin was announced Tuesday as the 2025 Teacher of the Year for the Sandhills region. The announcement was made during a surprise pep rally organized for the occasion.

Dr. Martin, a CTE teacher, and former assistant superintendent of Whiteville City Schools, is now among nine other teachers recognized to be the best in the state of North Carolina.

When asked how he felt about the recognition, Martin told Columbus Daily’s Logan Kennedy;

“When I started my second act in education a little more than three years ago, I never thought I would be regional teacher of the year. I recognize the only reason I have been given this honor is the great support I have been given at East Columbus Junior/Senior High School by my students, peers and admin. It’s a great school, and I’m proud to be a Gator.”
