Wally Dean Whaley, 61, of Tabor City was arrested after attempting to abscond to another state to avoid an arrest warrant for statutory rape of a child.

According to the warrant, Whaley allegedly raped a minor who was at least 12 years old but younger than 15 on or around the 13th. A Columbus County magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest on October 18th.
