UPDATE: Three Charged, More Threats Made Against County Schools

Three teenagers have been charged with making threats against local Columbus County Schools in two separate incidents.

Wesley Pridgen, 19, and Timya Riggins, 18, were taken into custody Thursday on charges of Communicating Threats of Mass Destruction. A minor has also been charged with the same crime.

Both Pridgen and Riggins were placed under a $100,000 secured bond and have pending court appearances.

Columbus Daily learned petitions were taken out against a 14-year-old female in a separate case, she was also charged with Communicating Threats of Mass Destruction. Multiple students have made similar threats at different schools, we are working to bring you that information.

East Columbus Jr./Sr. High School released this statement Friday regarding a threat made by a student there:

“Earlier this week, school officials were informed of a student making threats of violence on campus. These comments were overheard by other students and promptly reported to school staff. In response, school officials acted immediately by contacting local law enforcement. Deputies investigated the matter and have charged the student with making threats of mass destruction against an educational facility. The student is now facing legal consequences for their actions. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our highest priorities. We take all threats of violence very seriously and will only continue school when we are confident that the safety of students and adults is fully assured. We want to emphasize that there was no actual threat to students or the facility at any time. We appreciate the cooperation of students and parents in helping us maintain a safe and supportive school environment. Should you have any concerns or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.”
