The City of Whiteville Emergency Operations Center announced on Sunday they would move to an enhanced watch status in preparation for Hurricane Debby, now over Florida and expected to hit the Carolinas midweek. The storm is projected to bring floods to the Whiteville area and possible rainfall of up to 12 inches.

“The City of Whiteville Emergency Operations Center will move to an Enhanced Watch Status on Monday, August 5th at 7am to begin the coordination of response operations for Tropical Storm Debby.  An Enhanced Watch Status means the City is beginning preparations and fully monitoring conditions for response to this event. This is not a fully staffed EOC. NCEM will be activating their EOC in Raleigh at the same time to assist the municipalities and counties with resource requests.

The time to make sure your home and business is prepared is now. Your plan should have been made earlier, be prepared to execute.”
